London, UK – 10th July 2013 – MiTAC today announces the launch of its Mio MiVue range of Digital Video Recorders (DVRs). The range, which includes the MiVue 338, MiVue 358 and MiVue 388, is the most advanced set of in-vehicle digital video recorders designed to provide comprehensive visual documentation of events on the road. The MiVue 388 offers also the added value of GPS logging, and extra safety on the road with its built-in database of safety camera locations, with free lifetime updates.
Piet Deschuymer, President at MiTAC Europe said “We have a strong heritage with in-car devices, having built a trusted, respected PND brand. A move into in-car drive recorders is a natural progression, and we are excited to be bringing a device to market that will serve to protect the interests of drivers everywhere. We are not only providing visual documentation of events while driving, but also offering drivers more safety on the road with the built-in database of safety cameras. This enables drivers to know a dangerous zone is coming up, so they drive more carefully.”
The devices fit to the windscreen of any vehicle and record direction and impact of accidents that vehicles may get involved in. Each device in the range comes equipped with a 3-axis G-Sensor, which detects sudden changes in motion and instantly records and saves protected files for future analysis. A 120 degree wide-angle camera ensures that there are no blind spots and it takes smooth, 1080p HD videos with the latest H.264 technology, comprehensively capturing details at a smaller file size.
The range is supported by MiVue Manager, a software package that enables data storage and analysis. Capabilities include GPS Tracking, which allows a driver to track routes on Google; Video sharing, which enables drivers to share material on social platforms, and Direction Analyser, which displays driving directions for post-accident analysis.
The devices also work as a handheld camera to allow a driver to photograph any damage outside the car. The built-in one hour battery means a driver can take it out of the vehicle to get close-up photos as collateral evidence for accidents or events on the road.
Features specific to the MiVue 358 and 388
The MiVue 358 and 388 come with Parking Mode, which monitors a car’s environment when the driver is away from the vehicle. The built-in battery and motion detection technology means MiVue automatically activates and records videos when motion is detected around the vehicle.
Both the MiVue 358 and 388 use glass lenses to capture videos. This means that sharp, clear images and vivid colour can be recorded at day or night - crucial as fine detail is often critical when compiling accident information.
Extra safety on the road with the MiVue 388
The MiVue 388 comes with additional GPS tracking, allowing a driver to review information on speed, altitude, longitude, latitude and directions. The MiVue 388 also provides safety camera alerts, which highlight the location of dangerous zones along the road. This data is kept accurate via free monthly updates for the lifetime of the device via a download from www.mio.com. The MiVue 388 also has a rotating mount which lets a driver easily adjust the camera to a specific angle.
