Mio Technology, a leading worldwide supplier of Portable Navigation Devices (PNDs), today announces the Mio GPS Car Kit; the first GPS car kit that works with iPhone 4. This new cradle allows owners of all generations of iPhone or iPod touch to navigate from A to B in a safer manner and benefit from the advantages of the car kit, such as the powerful built-in GPS receiver, Bluetooth hands-free calling and the playback of spoken instructions and music via the speakers of the car stereo. The Mio GPS Car Kit works with most navigation software available for the iPhone and iPod touch*. It is suitable for the iPod touch 2nd generation, iPhone 3G, 3GS and for the recently introduced iPhone 4. And Mio added a practical feature for users who protect their iPhone or iPod touch with a skin or a case: the car kit works with or without skin or hard case, so no need to remove it.

The system is very simple. The user places the iPhone or iPod touch in the car kit in which an external GPS receiver has been integrated for enhanced, powerful satellite reception, and it works. When you wish to use your car kit as a hands-free speakerphone as well, you can connect via Bluetooth, which is automatically set to discovery mode and ready for pairing when powered on the first time. The iPhone is ready for use as a hands-free device as soon as they are connected. The Mio GPS Car Kit subsequently charges the iPhone or iPod touch, and provides clear route instructions and clear telephone conversations (iPhone) via the integrated speaker while driving. The device is also equipped with an audio line out, allowing it to be connected to the car stereo. This enables users to listen to route instructions, telephone conversations and music stored on the iPod touch or iPhone via the speakers of the car.

The advantages of the Mio GPS Car Kit are that bad GPS reception or unintelligible route instructions have now become a thing of the past. The risk of getting a hefty fine for handheld calling has also been significantly reduced as users no longer need to pick up the iPhone while driving.

The device can be easily attached to the windscreen with a suction mount; it can be used with most navigation software*, can be viewed in portrait or landscape mode and is compatible with all Bluetooth devices. Telephone conversations can also be answered, rejected or sent back to the iPhone. The car kit is powered by the included 12v-connection that can be plugged in the car.

The Mio GPS Car Kit will be available in Argos from September. The recommended retail price is £99.99.
