The most recently published study by industry analysts Canalys confirms that Mio Technology Europe has retained its number three position for mobile GPS device shipments across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for the fifth consecutive quarter.
Mio Technology recorded a year-on-year sales growth of 93.1% for Q2 2007 and an increase in market share from 9.7% in Q1 2007 to 10% in Q2 2007. The company’s quarterly sales grew approximately 36.8% in Q2 2007, compared to Q1 2007. The strong growth can be attributed to the popularity of Mio Technology’s wide-screen devices, the C320 and the C520(t) and the aggressively priced C220.
The report also confirmed Mio Technology Europe as the number one vendor in the on-board integrated GPS handheld or PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) category across the region with a market share of 51.3%. In the wireless handheld or GPS PDA phone category, the company holds the number three position with 13.2% market share.
“With the success of our current product line-up and the upcoming products which we will be launching at IFA in September, we are in a very good position to continue building our market share in mobile GPS devices across Europe,” says Paul Notteboom, President of Mio Technology. “Our new PNDs, the C620 and C620t, will feature the latest mapping software from Tele Atlas, which includes elevation models and 3D landmarks.”
Notteboom added that Mio Technology’s quarterly figures were boosted by strong performances in a number of key markets across EMEA. “We have moved up to number two position in France and Sweden and to number 3 position in Switzerland. In addition, we have maintained our number one position in Greece, number two position in Belgium and number three position in the Netherlands.”
Mio Technology also plans to boost brand awareness with advertising activities planned in Q4 2007 and have selected Duval Guillaume for its integrated brand building creative across Europe.
