A Greener Mio

Recycling and renewing are playing an ever important role in our lives. MiTAC’s responsibility towards the environment is led by innovation, government initiatives and goodwill. Many of the markets in which Mio has a presence encourage the recycling of paper, plastics and printer/copier toner. In some countries this has been going on for many years. So it comes as no surprise that Mio are actively encouraging this in all of their offices.

Our new approach is twofold: the first is to harness the power of renewable energy sources such as the sun and the rain to reduce our dependence on conventional power sources. Solar panels are being introduced to provide hot water and extra power; whilst in the rather wet climate of Belgium, the rain is being collected and recycled for flushing toilets. In coming years these advancements will be introduced throughout more of Mio’s offices as their advantages become apparent.

The second approach is to recycle as much material as possible ensuring that landfills are required less. As well as the recycling of paper, toner and plastics; computer and electrical waste is being recycled to the tune of 8000lbs every 6 months. That’s equivalent to 1600 bags of sugar.

The recycling of our old GPS device’s means that they are broken down into their constituent parts and either disposed of safely with no effect to the environment or are rebuilt into other devices. In fact 98% of our products by weight are recycled.

Mio’s Reuse and Recycling rate is greater than 65%, and its recovery rate is greater than 75%
